Bupa is expanding its corporate health insurance to enable employees to receive either part or fully funded weight management support, via its Bupa Clinics.

The Weight Management Plan, which is already available via self-pay, provides clinical and lifestyle support, including access to weight loss medication where appropriate.

Discounted weight management for consumers and SMEs

Existing Bupa health insurance customers, including consumers and SMEs, can benefit from a free initial remote consultation and 10% off the monthly cost of the Weight Management Plan. Meanwhile, corporate clients will have the ability to cover some or all of the cost for employees in their group health insurance scheme from January 2026.

Corporate customers will be able to tailor the cover to suit their workforce by choosing either the full Bupa Weight Management Plan, including weight loss medication, or a coaching-only option if medication isn’t suitable. Employers will have the option to provide the benefit to staff on an employee-funded, partially funded or fully funded basis.

The weight management programme offers a combination of clinical and lifestyle support, including remote GP consultations, personalised health programmes and ongoing coaching, as well as access to weight loss medications Wegovy and Mounjaro where this is deemed to be appropriate. The service includes additional wraparound care such as 24/7 access to a nurse via the insurer’s Anytime Healthline, and a six-month review with a GP.

To use the weight management support customers must have a BMI over 30, or over 27 with at least one weight-related condition.

Responding to rising obesity rates

Bupa’s decision to expand access to its weight management services comes amid rising concerns about obesity rates in the UK. The most recent Government data, published in May 2025, suggests that 64.5% of adults in England are overweight or obese, with more than a quarter (26.5%) living with obesity.

Dr Robin Clark, Medical Director for Bupa Insurance, said:

By offering access to expert clinical care, we’re helping people take control of their health and reduce their risk of serious conditions like diabetes, heart disease and cancer. We know that sustainable weight loss requires more than just willpower - it takes the right support, tools and clinical guidance. That’s why our approach combines trusted medical expertise, personalised coaching and medication where appropriate.”

Bupa first launched the Weight Management Plan in 2023 as a self-pay service through its health clinics. The insurer said it has seen “strong outcomes and high demand” since then.

“Bupa’s decision to offer its weight management programme, and potentially fully cover the cost of weight-loss medication, as part of its corporate health plans makes perfect sense. It reflects a growing recognition of the scale of the UK’s obesity crisis and the need for meaningful support in the workplace.”
